The Cerlage wires refers to a type of orthopedic fixation/stabilization wire placed to approximate fractured bone fragments. Stabilization and fixation of proximal femur in cases of periprosthetic fractures of the femur, subtrochanteric fractures or as a prophylactic banding in total joint hip arthroplasty.
The cerclage wires are made of stainless steel and are available in diameters ranging from 0.4 mm up to 1.5 mm.
